Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Shoot

I was commissioned by the Marine Society & Sea Cadets to create fly-on-the-wall documentary imagery of two groups of their cadets doing a DofE training exercise in Surrey.

The imagery is to be used on their internal education booking system, as part of a larger collection of shoots we’re doing to depict all the educational/interactive courses that they offer.

I always enjoy these ‘reportage’ style shoots where we have limited (or no) directional control over the scenario; it forces you to act really quickly (often - literally - running ahead and leapfrogging) to create imagery that feels high end. It’s the buzz of needing to know when and where to be to capture the candid moments, whereby normally you can just control the scenario through creative direction and have people “just one more time” repeat things. Not so here! Blink and you’ll miss it.
